Hotel Transformation Using CED Natural Stone Wins ‘Best Commercial Project’ at Master Builder Awards
Post date: 28 Sep, 2017

A Northern Irish construction company has won a top industry award for their £2million redevelopment of the Silverbirch Hotel in Omagh, which used a brilliant range of different natural stone materials from CED Stone Group’s Ireland Depot. The team from Lowry Building & Civil Engineering were presented with the highly coveted ‘Best Commercial Project in the UK’ award at the Federation of Master Builder’s Awards 2017 on the 15th of September.

The project is certainly a transformation with a wow-factor! Silverbirch Hotel wanted a complete make-over that would make them the new go-to venue for weddings and business functions in Northern Ireland. Plans for the project included a brand-new multi-purpose event space that can host up to 700 guests, and a stylish, relaxed bar and outdoor courtyard complete with mounted televisions and outdoor seating.

‘We’re excited to see our natural stone products used to such an incredibly high standard in the Silverbirch project. The hotel is a brilliant example of how an extensive range of different stone materials can be perfectly incorporated into one scheme, from granites and basalts to porcelain paving. Our friends at Lowery Building & Civil Engineering have done a fantastic job in transforming the venue, and we couldn’t think of a more deserving team to win such a prestigious award.’

What impressed the judges most was that the extensive work was completed in a ‘live hotel’, where the project would have to be carried out in a very high-risk environment with the busy goings-on of a fully-operational hotel continuing alongside the construction work. Risks were identified, managed and controlled pro-actively by the Lowry Building & Civil Engineering team, allowing the hotel to continue to operate without affecting guests whilst still providing the highest quality, bespoke build for the client.

‘We are delighted to have been chosen as Commercial Project Winner at the National FMB Master Builder Awards 2017 for the redevelopment of the Silverbirch Hotel, Omagh. Successful completion of this impressive project, designed by Des Ferguson of Arch- Aid Design for the Duncan family, is a testament to the hard work and co-operation of the entire project team and everyone involved.’

The result is spectacular and the business has now re-established itself as one of the leading wedding and conference venues in Northern Ireland, with bookings already exceeding targets for the coming year.
