74 Knapped Flint Colours Product Description A walling and building method steeped in tradition and heritage, Knapped Flint has been used across the South East of England as a walling material since the Roman times, and is still particularly common in places across Sussex, Kent and Essex. There are many examples of knapped flint walling which are hundreds of years old and still look bright and clean. Demand for these durable and attractive stones is usually for restoring or repairing historic knapped flint walls, or for building new walls that have to match and blend in with existing architecture to comply with planning requirements. Our standard Knapped Flints are quarried from chalk beds, so the pieces of stone have a white chalk crust. The raw flints are split (knapped) to expose the glossy dark centre of the stones which can then be set into the wall using either a lime or concrete mortar. The dark flint is usually set facing outwards and arranged to create different patterns, but it is often common practice for a few flints to be turned inwards with their white skins showing. In addition to the standard stock size, we can supply whole flints and a range of different quantities to suit your individual requirements and other colours are available on request.
