Aeolian Sandstone Paving

A subtle pale cream sandstone found in the North East of Scotland, made up of mostly Quartz with small amounts of Chlorite and Calcite minerals binding the grains together.

'Aeolian' comes from the Greek God of the Wind, as this sandstone was formed 246 – 210 million years ago when Britain was closer to the equator and covered in deserts. Being a desert sandstone, the sand grains were windblown, making them worn and round.
