C6 explores carbon sequestration, water recycling and wildlife-friendly design, while creating a calm, sophisticated garden. Referencing carbon’s chemical symbol (C) and atomic number (6), the garden sequesters over 1,200kg of carbon and slows and stores 450 litres of rainwater. The garden features CEDEC Gold supplied by CED Stone.

The garden demonstrates three approaches to carbon sequestration at any scale. Biochar improves soil health while locking carbon away for up to 1,000 years. Charred oak planters store a further 500kg of CO₂ over their lifespan. Fast-growing trees and herbaceous perennials provide ongoing potential for harvesting and conversion into biochar, removing carbon from the cycle.

A copper tank set within a charred oak planter gently feeds a diagonal rill, forming part of a SuDS strategy that captures, slows and allows rainwater to percolate. A bronze wall sculpture, depicting the negative space of a closed hand, creates a focal point and symbolises how biochar’s benefits come from the carbon’s internal voids.
