The design of the Return to the Med garden takes inspiration from travel and the visual arts, transporting the garden’s owners from their suburban setting to another place and time, filled with happy memories of their travels abroad.

The garden features plants and materials associated with Mediterranean landscapes such as an artisan pebbled path and edging, rendered walls and a water rill and spout. The owners’ love of travel is reflected in the style of the planting scheme. Plants from around the world, focusing in particular on those suitable for the Mediterranean climate, are mixed in a colour palette of yellow, pink, blue and lilac. The Taxus baccata columns and balls frame the informal planting and complement the hard landscaping materials.

A mosaic feature wall viewed from the seating area provides a postcard-like reminder of previous travels and references the owners’ keen interest in art. This is a place for reminiscing and finding creative inspiration.
