The garden promotes a message against the growing culture of being too busy. Inspired by a Norfolk colloquialism encouraging people to “slow you down,” it explores the mental health benefits of living an unhurried lifestyle and spending time in nature, gardens, and gardening.
Drawing on the coastal landscape of North Norfolk, the design features gabion walls filled with natural materials to evoke the region’s coastal cliffs while also creating valuable wildlife habitats. Kerry Offord, based at the West Thurrock Depot, collaborated with Mark Britton from The Outdoor Room and designers Joe and Laura Carey to supply the limestone and slabby sandstone used within these gabions.
