CED Stone Inspiring Beautiful Landscapes

CED’s Green Schist Stone Paving Makes A Stunning Debut In Ireland

Post date: 03 Nov, 2020

This month over in Ireland, our CED Stone Landscape, Omagh Depot supplied Green Schist Paving for a domestic project, this is the very first time this stone has featured on the Emerald Isle.

Although a relatively new paving product, this stone is old, really-old. Quarried in the Western Scottish Highlands this beautiful Schist stone is in fact, almost 1 billion years old and is a unique stone with a beautiful, and rare, vibrant green colour.

The stone was first brought to our attention back in 2017 by a local factory that felt it was worth investigation to see whether this stone could be turned into something commercially viable. After some initial tests, it became apparent that this stone was definitely worth further investigation as the first sample blocks produced some lovely material.

Due to this, the stone was offered to the Natural History Museum as an edging stone for their new frontage.

By the time this project had finished, we were in the process of producing material for a second, ‘confidential’ scheme in South West London, leading to the paving gaining the nickname, ‘Murray Green Schist’.

The stone, though not without its challenges, has proven to be a fantastic material not only for paving but also setts, kerbs, and plinths as seen in this picture of the K9 Memorial Statue in Chelmsford.

James Kane, CED Stone Landscape Omagh Depot Manager comments,

We’re passionate about supporting British quarries and want to inspire the rest of the landscaping industry to use these beautiful materials. It is great to see our Scottish Green Schist increasing in popularity and we are delighted to see it being used here in Ireland for the first time.

This modern garden design project was designed and built by regular customer Spring Landscapes, a company based in Omagh who has been offering a design and build landscaping service for private homeowners for over 20 years.

At the front of the property, the green paving slabs beautifully complement the exterior of this contemporary residence, adding a hint of colour to an otherwise monochrome palette.

It has also been used to pave a small patio area at the rear of the property with our Silver Grey Granite Kerb used as edging giving a neat and tidy finish.

The decorative stones surrounding the paved area are our Scottish Beach Cobbles and Pebbles. The multi-pastel colourings add warmth to the garden whilst the range of sizes adds depth and interest.

The stone is extremely tough, immense temperatures and pressures have elongated the materials, giving it beautiful and distinct waved pattern. Green is a rare colour in the stone world, which makes this the perfect material for creating an attractive and unique outdoor space.
