‘Immerse’ Yourself at RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show

Leading horticulture charity Perennial are teaming up with designer Cherry Carmen from Cherry Blossom Garden and contractors Living Landscapes for their ‘Immerse’ garden at this year’s Hampton Court Palace Flower Show.
Once she gained her RHS qualifications, Cherry established Cherry Blossom Gardens, with the ‘Immerse’ garden being her first solo show garden project. Bringing their experience of show gardens to the build are contractors Living Landscapes who, since 2013, have won five silver-gilt medals and a People’s Choice Award.
After suffering with kidney cancer, Cherry’s design captures the sense of being embraced, protected and nurtured, as well as revitalised and inspired. The ethos of the design fits perfectly with Perennial, who have been helping horticulturists in need for 175 years.
The garden has been designed to be south-west facing, allowing the full flood of the afternoon sun. With the innovative recessed seating area, a shelter from the elements is given, providing the sense of being embraced and protected whilst able to bask in the afternoon rays.
Surrounding the recessed seating area are walls of cascading water. The sound of running water is renown for its relaxing and calming qualities, which can be enjoyed in the garden within an enclosed and private space.
CED Stone Group’s Ebony Cloud Paving will form the basis of the seating area, including the walling that encloses it. Ebony Cloud will also serve as the steps that lead from the outside life of stress and worry down into the intimate seated area, which has been designed with a young professional couple in mind, to offer a space of retreat and rejuvenation.
Not only was the hard landscaping materials purpose to create strong, uniform and structured lines within the garden, but to also emphasise and maximise the effect of the water, especially its interplay with light. Therefore, considerable thought has been given to choosing the right material. Ebony Cloud was subsequently chosen for the ‘Immerse’ garden due to the contrast of its grey-green tones when dry, turning to a dark grey, with specks of shimmering quartz when wet.
Movement and softness are added in way of unstructured and textured planting. London Planetrees create a canopy over woodland shade wild matting and wildflowers on the top level, whilst lush wide-leaf planting embraces the seating area as you move downstairs.
Given CED’s history with supporting Perennial, when we were approached to help with this garden, we couldn’t refuse and are very proud to be involved with such an inspiring project.
